Baking Day

Licking fingers

My friend Mahi came over yesterday to bake some stuff with me. We baked a Thunder Cake and Chango Bars. Both of them came from stories in our reading book at school.

The Secret Ingredient!

Thundercake is a story by Patricia Polacco. It is about a girl who is afraid of the thunder. Her grandma makes a cake with her so that she won't be afraid of the thunder because she is busy cooking. There is a special ingredient in Thundercake, tomatoes! At first I thought I wouldn't like the cake because of the tomatoes. It was excellent though.

Getting it all the way covered

Chango bars come from a story called Jalapeño Bagels by Natasha Wing. Jalapeño Bagels is about a boy wondering what he can bring to school to eat on Heritage Day. His mom and dad have a bakery. His dad is Jewish and his mom is Mexican. They bake things in their bakery that are Mexican and Jewish. The boy finally decides to bring Jalapeño Bagels because they are a mixture of both of his parents. We didn't make the bagels but we did make another recipe in that book called Chango Bars. Chango bars are like chocolate chip cookies but in bars not in cookie shapes. I don't like them because they have nuts. My Bubbe likes them though. She goes nuts for NUTS!

After we baked, Mahi and I painted picture frames and then we played.

If you want the recipes for these desserts you can go to my Mom's blog HERE and get them. You should try them. They are delicious!

The Great Brain!

Curly Locks

I just finished the book The Great Brain. The book is about a boy named Tom (T.D.), John (J.D.) and Sweyn (S.D.) These boys are brothers. Tom is called The Great Brain because he has a great brain that can solve problems and he can use it to be tricky. The story tells about their life growing up.
The funniest part in the book is when Tom charges everyone money to come in to their house to see the new watercloset in their house. They lived before toilets came in houses. Their was the first one to get one in their town because their Papa was crazy for new inventions. Everyone thought they thought they were crasy to have a toilet in their house because it would make the house stink! When Tom made the kids pay to see the toilet inside there was a sign that said "See the magic water closet that doean't stink. Admission one penny cash - no promises or credit!"

We are going to go and get the next book called More Adventures of the Great Brain later on today.

Straight Hair

Straight Haired Sabi

Today I went to get my haircut. I asked Yolanda if she could make it straight. She said that she could but only for a day. I have curly hair and she can't change that.

First she cut my hair. Then she blow dryed my hair. After that she used a flat iron to sraighten my hair. It took a long time but I like it.

After that, my mommy took me to the picture studio and we got my picture taken with my new hair cut.

Peace Day

Flower Child

Today I went to a Peace event at the park. There was a bell that was ringing for all of the people who died in the war. Some people made posters and stood there holding them for people to see. There was a kid corner too. In the kid corner kids could build with blocks, play with play-doh, read some books, draw, write and have fun. I got to help some little kids there too. I wrote a poem about peace there.

Non-Violence:
Peace is better than violence
Love not hate
Love not war
For all people give a
little of what you have and...
Love

It was fun to go to the park. A photographer from the Modesto Bee came and took pictures. I might be in the paper!

Read Across America Week

Dr. Seuss

This week was Read Across America Week. We celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday this week. He would have been 102 if he was still alive.

Read Across America Day

We did lots of things at school.

Monday: Hat day. I wore my funny snow hat.

Tuesday: Bring your favorite book to school day. I brought Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

Wednesday: We were supposed to write letters but we didn't do it.

Thursday: YEAH! It was the most fun day of the week. It was dress up like a favorite character from a book.

End of the Day

I was Hermione Granger from Harry Potter.

Dress Up Day at School-Read Across America Day 2006

I kept on giving BIG lecture to people who said "Hi Harry Potter" I kept on saying "I'm a girl - not a boy!" People wanted my autographs. This girl and boy called Taco and Burrito knew who I was.

Friday: Today - was spirit day. We wore Purple and Gold.
