Thundercake is a story by Patricia Polacco. It is about a girl who is afraid of the thunder. Her grandma makes a cake with her so that she won't be afraid of the thunder because she is busy cooking. There is a special ingredient in Thundercake, tomatoes! At first I thought I wouldn't like the cake because of the tomatoes. It was excellent though.
Chango bars come from a story called Jalapeño Bagels by Natasha Wing. Jalapeño Bagels is about a boy wondering what he can bring to school to eat on Heritage Day. His mom and dad have a bakery. His dad is Jewish and his mom is Mexican. They bake things in their bakery that are Mexican and Jewish. The boy finally decides to bring Jalapeño Bagels because they are a mixture of both of his parents. We didn't make the bagels but we did make another recipe in that book called Chango Bars. Chango bars are like chocolate chip cookies but in bars not in cookie shapes. I don't like them because they have nuts. My Bubbe likes them though. She goes nuts for NUTS!
After we baked, Mahi and I painted picture frames and then we played.
